Dr. Rios received her master’s degree from University Carlos Albizu and her Doctor of Counseling Psychology from University Ana G. Mendez. Her early training in psychology emphasized multicultural issues, outpatient services, community setting, family dysfunctions, elderly cognitive aspects and psychological assessments on children’s, adolescents and adults. Dr.Rios is currently a licensed psychologist in the jurisdiction of Puerto Rico and is working to complete the board requirements to be licensed within the States.
She completed her APA approved internship with WellSpan Health and is currently performing a post-doctoral program with the same organization. WellSpan is an integrated health system that serves many of the communities in Central Pennsylvania. As part of her training Xiomara is currently working on numerous types of psychological diagnosis, providing long-term psychotherapy in a community mental health/psychiatric outpatient setting. In addition, Xiomara worked with brief solution-focused therapy at an integrated primary care setting. The population included individuals living in both urban and rural settings, who were racially and socioeconomically diverse, members of the LGBTQ+ population, among others. As a bilingual therapist (Spanish/English), Xiomara had the opportunity to enrich the cultural experience through the therapy process while taking in consideration the importance of sensitivity and cultural diversity awareness.
